At the Center for Employment Opportunities (CEO) Pittsburgh, we know that strong partnerships with local employers are vital to creating real opportunities for our participants. Today, we're thrilled to highlight our incredible partnership with Construction Junction (CJ), a pillar of fair chance employment and community empowerment in Pittsburgh.

Since 2021, CJ has been an extraordinary partner in our mission to provide immediate, effective, and comprehensive employment services to individuals returning from incarceration. Through this collaboration, we've seen firsthand how businesses can positively impact lives by giving returning citizens the fair chance they deserve.

The partnership began when CEO connected with Melissa Mongelli, Executive Director of Construction Junction. From the beginning, Melissa (affectionately known as Missy) embraced the fair chance philosophy wholeheartedly. Her welcoming approach created an inclusive workspace where CEO participants feel valued and supported, regardless of their pasts.

CJ's support doesn't end at the hiring process. Missy and her team consistently demonstrate their commitment to employee success, providing ongoing support to navigate barriers and personal recovery journeys. Regular check-ins between CJ and CEO ensure participants thrive, helping them stay connected and grow professionally.

Through this meaningful partnership, CJ has hired 12 CEO participants since 2021, placing them in roles ranging from customer service to donation coordination and driving positions. These roles have a profound impact on participants, providing pathways to career advancement and stability.

One powerful example is the story of L.D., a CEO participant who initially struggled to secure stable employment. Thanks to CJ, L.D. found meaningful work assisting customers, managing donations, and helping maintain the retail space. Over 15 months later, L.D. has maintained employment and been promoted to a coordinator role, substantially increasing his earnings and responsibilities. L.D.'s journey is a testament to how fair chance hiring transforms lives and strengthens communities.

CJ’s support extends beyond employment opportunities. They actively engage CEO in community events, such as their annual Cee Jay awards, which celebrate their shared commitment to sustainability and community enrichment.
