CEO Academy
The CEO Academy is a new trade preparation program that prepares participants with criminal convictions for entrance into trade school, supports them throughout training, and helps find them jobs in the trades after they finish training. Participants in the academy receive hands-on training at Bronx Community College (BCC) or at New York City College of Technology and receive a certificate from these institutions.

The Plumbing and Electricity courses at BCC are recognized by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). The Refrigeration and Air Conditioning program at New York City College of Technology prepares participants to take the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Universal Certificate exam.

The Academy prepares participants for careers as electricians’ helpers, plumbers’ helpers and refrigeration mechanics.

The Academy is free for participants.

In order to qualify for the Academy, participants must:
• Have a criminal conviction
• Make a eight – ten month commitment to the program
• Be willing to commute to and from the designated trade school area at least three days a week
• Test at a 7th grade math level on the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE); CEO will test interested participants
• Have an interest in pursuing one of the three trades
• Have been working on a job for three months; OR have an active Family Assistance case in their name, or, for 18-24 year olds, either a Family Assistance case or a Safety Net case.
• Be able to juggle a full-time job, family commitments and school

Classes meet two days per week, from 6-8:30 pm or on Saturdays from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
Participants are expected to be working throughout the training, either in the jobs that they have when they come in, or, if they begin on public assistance, to use CEO’s core services of transitional employment and job placement assistance to find a full time job.
